To step, for one minute away from technology and say the current political race to represent the country I love makes me sad.
Sad, and a little desperate. For the first time in my adult life I look at EVERYONE running and I don’t think there is one I can support. From attack ads to people simply saying things that make no sense there isn’t a single person running right now that I would vote for.
Tell me what you stand for. Tell me your plan for fixing problems and your plan for keeping things that are working going. Don’t tell me why the other guy or girl is an idiot. I can figure out idiots myself. Just tell me what you are going to do.
I don’t think I am alone in this. I don’t think I am in the majority either. The reason is that attack ads work. They have worked for the past 10 years or more and are getting worse. So because they work, they get used. We don’t have a discourse on the issues anymore. We have a discourse on the people running.
Television makes it really hard to present topics and concepts. Ross Perot ran for presentiment and presented ideas. But ideas don’t always convey well on television. So Ross was an also ran. Asking your opponent “Where’s the beef?” is a cute mix of commercialism and politics but it adds no value to the situation.
I guess politicians if you want my vote tell me what you are going to do. Help me understand how you are going to make this country stronger. Strong enough to turn the other cheek, powerful enough to be able to help other nations grow. A shining beacon for the world. To represent the words carved on the base of the lady in the harbor. Give me your poor…
Don’t fill the airwaves with hate. Candidate X will vote with his or her pocketbook, not your pocketbook in mind. I don’t want that. I can figure out for myself who will represent the dreams I have best. That’s the easy button of politics. I know who bevies in what I hold to to be critical. What I want is the first step in the journey of a thousand steps. Don’t give me step 999, I need to know now how we start. What is the first step we need to take to make this a better world?
It isn’t bombing ISIS into the stone age. WWII provide that beyond a shadow of a doubt. It is creating a world where we are all people. You don’t kill people you know and understand. (if you do there are other problems, but we can build medical systems to help people with those problems). Give me the first step.
I have a dream. It is the dream that Dr. King shared. That someday people would be judged for the content of their minds. Tell me what you are going to do. Tell me why you are there. Help me decide who can help all of us. It isn’t about skin color, sexual orientation, political affiliation or even where you were born. It is about what you can do for our great nation. John Kennedy said “ask not what your country can do for you. BUT WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY.” What, politicians can you do for us?
